$21 million Lotto Max jackpot is divided among friends, coworkers

A very happy group of co-coworkers from Penetanguishene, Ontario claimed their $21-million prize last Thursday after winning a Lotto Max jackpot.

Each of the 12 mental health workers will have a share of $1.75 million from the November 25 draw.
Most members of the lottery group said that they would go back to work even though they are now millionaires. One or two of them said they have plans to retire from work.

The members of the group, whose age range from 33 to 63, work at the Waypoint Centre for Mental Health Care in Penetanguishine, which is located about 140 kilometers north of Ontario.

Some members of the group plan to purchase new vehicles, while others said they would travel and spend some in the community.

Christopher Lahaie, the leader of the group, said that they have been playing the lottery together for over a year now.

The twelve members of the group have to give $2 each toward Quick Pick. The group has also won smaller prizes like $10 and free tickets before.

Lahaie narrated: "When I validated the ticket and found out the amount of our win, my first thought was of our group. I was thinking how much the money would help out each member. Then I laughed to myself that we all went to work for a whole week without knowing."

Lahaie said that most members of the group did not believe him when he told them they won the jackpot prize.

Donna Valentine, another member of the group, said "Christopher is known as the joker of the group so we all thought he was playing a trick on us. It took some time to sink in but we're all elated."

Other workers at the hospital said they are happy for the lottery winners and hope that some of their fortune will rub off.

"The whole hospital was amazing. Everyone's been so positive for us, it's made it even better," Lahaie ended.
