Mississauga resident takes home $7.4 million Lotto 6/49 jackpot

Brenda Bosanac seemed to have a regular day on the 20th of December until she discovered that she won big on Lotto 6/49.

Bosanac woke up early in the morning to make the usual deliveries for Sully’s Catering and Vending, the regular task she has been doing for the past 25 years.

But at the end of that day, she was retired from work! Thanks to her $7.4 million jackpot win from the December 14, 2011 Lotto 6/49 draw.

"I stopped in at my regular gas station to pick up propane, and left a multimillionaire! When I validated my ticket and the machine froze, I screamed aloud right there in the store. I was in such a daze but I finished up my shift as usual," said Brenda when she arrived at the OLG Toronto Prize Centre with her sister to claim the prize.

She said she shared the good news almost immediately with her sister and daughter. Her boss was also excited for her. Brenda said that her boss believed that she deserved the prize.

This mom from Mississauga said that her windfall won’t change her.

"My lifestyle may change, but I'll stay the same person."

Aside from the fact that she is retiring from her job, she would also purchase a new home and a new vehicle. She also likes to travel the world, including visiting the Disneyland with her daughter.

Brenda bought the lucky 6/49 ticket at Speers Husky on Third Line in Oakville.

$21 million Lotto Max jackpot is divided among friends, coworkers

A very happy group of co-coworkers from Penetanguishene, Ontario claimed their $21-million prize last Thursday after winning a Lotto Max jackpot.

Each of the 12 mental health workers will have a share of $1.75 million from the November 25 draw.
Most members of the lottery group said that they would go back to work even though they are now millionaires. One or two of them said they have plans to retire from work.

The members of the group, whose age range from 33 to 63, work at the Waypoint Centre for Mental Health Care in Penetanguishine, which is located about 140 kilometers north of Ontario.

Some members of the group plan to purchase new vehicles, while others said they would travel and spend some in the community.

Christopher Lahaie, the leader of the group, said that they have been playing the lottery together for over a year now.

The twelve members of the group have to give $2 each toward Quick Pick. The group has also won smaller prizes like $10 and free tickets before.

Lahaie narrated: "When I validated the ticket and found out the amount of our win, my first thought was of our group. I was thinking how much the money would help out each member. Then I laughed to myself that we all went to work for a whole week without knowing."

Lahaie said that most members of the group did not believe him when he told them they won the jackpot prize.

Donna Valentine, another member of the group, said "Christopher is known as the joker of the group so we all thought he was playing a trick on us. It took some time to sink in but we're all elated."

Other workers at the hospital said they are happy for the lottery winners and hope that some of their fortune will rub off.

"The whole hospital was amazing. Everyone's been so positive for us, it's made it even better," Lahaie ended.

He went to say that “At first I thought I won $21,000 and was floored. I was so excited. When the OLG person on the phone told me I won $21 million, I actually dropped the phone. I was frozen. I couldn’t believe it. My life is just going to be so great now!”

Being ecstatic that he was, he forgot to bring along the groceries he purchased and immediately went home to share the news with his parents as well as his girlfriend.

“I still can’t believe it!!” he remarked gleefully. “This just doesn’t seem real. All the things that I want to do, such as buy my first home and settle down, are now going to be a possibility.”

Henshaw told that one of the first things he would do is to set up an education fund for his nieces and nephew as well as helping a close-friend with tuition.

He also plans to take his parents to a trip to Europe, where he and his girlfriend went last summer.

He said that he would take a year off from teaching, but will surely return because he could not imagine himself not teaching in the future.
